New ski lifts and gondolas in Italy’s ski resorts

Italian ski resorts are constantly investing in new lift and gondola infrastructure. Read here which ski lifts will come into operation in the 2023/2024 winter season. Everything is being done to give winter sports enthusiasts in Italy a fantastic skiing and snowboarding experience.

Madonna di Campiglio / Pinzolo / Folgarida / Marilleva

Pra Rodont Doss del Sabion – 10-seater gondola lift

More and more chairlifts are being replaced by gondolas. This is also the case in Pinzolo. There, a new gondola with the same name as the old 4-seater chairlift Pra Rodont Doss del Sabion is being built.

Each gondola can carry 10 people, which makes the flow much better in the popular ski area of Pinzolo / Madonna di Campiglio. Skiers and snowboarders have to wait less time and can also enjoy more comfort.

The new gondola that also departs from Pinzolo will be built close to the old lift. New will be a viewing platform at the mountain station, allowing guests to see even more of the beautiful surroundings and mountain panorama.

Brixen / Plose

Plose gondola lift (Plose I and II)

This winter season 2023/2024 it is finally there! In Brixen in the Plose ski area in South Tyrol, the old 6-seater gondola will then be replaced by a new 10-seater gondola. Actually, it will be 2 lifts with an intermediate station, namely Plose I and Plose II.

As the Plose gondola is one of the most important connections between St Andrä and the Kreuztal, many winter sports enthusiasts will be happy with the arrival of the new lift.

People with disabilities and families with prams can now also take the gondola up to enjoy the beautiful views of the Brixener Talkessel. In summer, mountain bikes and mountaincarts no longer need to be lifted into the gondola, but are loaded and unloaded fully automatically.

With both a new valley, middle and mountain station, space has been created for more service (rental and sale of sports equipment, info point etc.).

Since the gondola has an intermediate station, skiers and snowboarders can now use the higher slopes between the mountain and intermediate station in case of less snowy conditions. Furthermore, better use can now be made of the total 9-kilometre-long toboggan run, called the RudiRun.

The gondola lift was built as environmentally friendly as possible, paying attention to water conservation areas, and stands out as little as possible in the landscape.

Cima Plaut – 4-seater chairlift

Novice skiers and snowboarders can breathe a sigh of relief in the Folgaria ski area. The Plaut plate lift, which is difficult for some to use, has been replaced by a 4-person chairlift, called Passo Coe – Cima Plaut. Tired legs can rest for a while on the ride up before skiing and snowboarding back down.

An additional advantage of the new chairlift is that it can also be used by hikers and mountain bikers in the summer. Therefore, the new chairlift is a huge step forward.

Valena – 6-seater chairlift

The 6-seater chairlift Valena marks an impressive development in the Ponte di Legno / Tonale / Presena Glacier / Temù (Ponte di Legno – Tonale) ski area. This lift, in operation since 2023, replaces the 4-seater chairlift Valena of the same name, which had been in operation since 2002.

The chairlift is equipped with weatherproof covers that offer protection against unpleasant weather conditions. In addition, the chairlift also offers seat heating which provides extra comfort during the ride. Not forgetting the child safety device, which makes the ride safer for the youngest skiers and snowboarders.

In autumn and spring, the new lift also transports guests in the Presena glacier area.

Val Senales Glacier cable car

The Val Senales Glacier cable car is a masterpiece of modern technology and an enhancement for winter sports throughout the Alpine region. Designed as a cable car, it comes from Doppelmayr, a leading manufacturer of cable car technology.

An impressive feature of the Schnalstal glacier lift is the size of its cabins. Each cabin accommodates up to 80 people, allowing for a high transport capacity of 800 people per hour. This will significantly reduce waiting times, especially on busy days, thus improving the overall skiing and winter experience.

The height of the valley station is 2,011 metres, while the mountain station is at an impressive height of 3,212 metres. At 2,154 metres, the lift offers an impressive ride over the mountains.

Modern technology and gondola design ensure safe and comfortable transport even in extreme weather conditions. Its elevation and fast transport capacity make it one of the main arteries in the Val Senales Glacier ski area, offering both locals and tourists an efficient and convenient way to enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery in Schnals.

The improved accessibility of the glacier will further enhance the attractiveness of the Schnalstal Valley as a winter sports destination.

In short, the new Val Senales Glacier cable car is a remarkable addition to the Alpine region. The cable car sets new standards in terms of capacity, speed and height and is an impressive example of technological progress in cable car construction.
