News in the World Cup winter 2024/2025

This Alpine Skiing World Cup 2024/2025 is “back to the roots”! After a somewhat chaotic season last year with numerous cancellations and postponements, tried and tested venues are now back on the World Cup calendar.

After the season opener in Sölden, the action continues 3 weeks later in November, first in Levi and then in Gurgl. Both venues will host the men’s and women’s races this year. After 2 cancellations, the races in Zermatt have now been removed from the calendar.

Afterwards, the skiers will continue in the USA and Canada with races in Beaver Creek, Killington and Tremblant. The World Cup circus will not be back in North America for the second time until the World Cup final in Sun Valley in March.

In order to further increase safety and reduce the risk of injury for the athletes, airbags will now be mandatory for all skiers in the speed disciplines. Cut-resistant underwear is also recommended. This will be mandatory from the 2025/2026 season.

Classics, World Championships in Saalbach and World Cup finals in Sun Valley

Classics such as the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel, Lauberhorn races in Wengen, the Nightrace with giant slalom and slalom twice again in Schladming, Adelboden, Val Gardena / Gröden with Saslong, the Stelvio in Bormio and Tofane in Cortina d’Ampezzo are of course not to be missed as absolute spectacles and crowd-magnets.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is back on the men’s and women’s schedule with the infamous Kandahar Downhill at the end of January 2025 and beginning of February 2025. The women will also be racing a Super-G in Garmisch.

From 04.02.-16.02.2025 the time has come. 34 years after the legendary Sun World Championships in 1991, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will once again take place in Saalbach Hinterglemm. A true celebration of alpine skiing will be held here. The team combination with duos of downhill skiers and slalom skiers will be competing there for the first time. It now replaces the individual combination in the men’s and women’s events.

The World Cup final will take place in Sun Valley in the USA in March 2025. For the first time, ski fans will be able to celebrate the awarding of the coveted crystal globes with the ski stars.
