New lifts and cable cars in the Swiss ski resorts for winter 2024/2025
Skiing and snowboarding in the beautiful mountains of Switzerland has always been fantastic. But with the construction of new lifts and cable cars in Switzerland, the ski resorts will be upgraded again this winter season. Faster and even more comfortable access to the summits of the Swiss ski resorts is the motto. In this SNOWELL blog, you can find out where new lifts and cable cars will be opened in the 2024/2025 winter season.
Arosa Lenzerheide
Rungg – Stätzertäli
The first Täli chairlift in the Arosa Lenzerheide ski area was put into operation in 1994. After 30 years, it was time to modernise it. The new 4-seater Stätzertäli chairlift is ultra-modern with seats that you won’t want to get off. And if it’s windy, the canopy can be lowered.
It is one of the most energy-efficient lifts in the Alps, with a drive that consumes 10% less energy, photovoltaic modules at the top station and the reuse of waste heat for heating the premises.
The new lift is not the only investment in Lenzerheide. The snowmaking system will be further expanded and optimised over the next few years until 2030. This will also improve the connections from the Stätzerhorn mountain station to Lavoz, for example, or from the Valbella ski lift to the Val Schemaela-Valbella piste.

Engelberg – Titlis
Project Titlis
In the Engelberg – Titlis ski area there will be a second aerial tramway to the Kleine Titlis.
The mountain station and tower are under construction and the Titlis project is working on massively improving the infrastructure and sustainability until 2029, including the options for events and catering.
The first part of the project, the new Titlis Connect tramway, will be completed by the end of 2024. Unfortunately, the new tramway will not yet be available for winter sports enthusiasts, but only as a transport lift and only for guests from 2026. As this is a very large and important project, we thought it was important to mention this for the projects in Switzerland. We will keep you up to date on developments in our SNOWELL blog. Here you can find a complete overview of the Titlis project

Saas Fee
Metro Alpin
The highest funicular railway in the world, the Metro Alpin in Saas Fee, was opened in 1984 and has been in operation ever since as a link between the Felskinn station at 2980 metres above sea level and the Mittelallalin station at 3456 metres above sea level. This funicular railway takes you to the highest revolving restaurant in the world. This centrepiece of the Metro Alpin has now been extensively modernised and once again meets current standards, taking 95 passengers up through the 1.5 km long tunnel with a difference in altitude of 476 metres in just 4.5 minutes. The new doors make it easier for passengers to get on and off and reduce waiting times.

Hannigbahn
The old 4-seater Hannig lift has been converted into a modern 10-seater gondola, which is not only suitable for skiers and snowboarders. It offers comfortable transport for all snowshoe and winter hikers or guests travelling for a toboggan ride, which is now possible up to the Hannig valley station. The cable car can be used in both winter and summer and also offers transport options for bikes on the Hannigberg. The cable car is also suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
The new Metro Alpin and the new Hannigbahn now make holidays in the Saas Fee ski area even more attractive and comfortable.

Flims-Laax-Falera
Update FlemXpress
We already reported in our blog for 2023/2024 that a new 10-passenger gondola lift has opened in the Flims–Laax–Falera ski area.
The cable car has 6 stations where you can get on and off. The first section to Startgels has been in operation since the 2023/2024 winter season. The second section to Nagens Sura will be ready for the coming 2024/2025 season. The third and final section of the FlemXpress to Cassons should be completed by summer 2025.
The globally innovative Ropetaxi system is fully automatic and only runs when guests want to use it. It works as follows:
- you choose where you want to get off by pressing the button.
- a gondola pulls up, indicating your destination. You get on in a relaxed manner as the gondola is completely stationary.
- the gondola indicates the maximum number of guests. This means that this lift system can be optimally used.
- you are taken quickly and very comfortably to your station and can enjoy the beautiful views on the way.

Funicular railway Unterwasser – Iltios
Easter 2024 was the last trip on the old funicular railway in Unterwasser to Iltios. But don’t worry, because the funicular will not disappear, but will be completely modernised. The old funicular railway carriage no. 1 already has a nice place in the museum and a good home is also being sought for no. 2.
The two newly built funiculars meet the latest standards, but remain traditional in design with a lot of manual work and the typical red colour. The doors have been widened to make boarding easier. The windows have been enlarged to provide an even better view of the beautiful mountain scenery. The valley station is being completely redesigned and built using different types of wood from the region.
