New lifts and cable cars in France’s ski resorts – winter 2024/2025
In France, a lot has been invested in new lifts for the 2024/2025 winter season, both in the larger and smaller ski resorts. The French ski resorts are therefore continuing to increase their attractiveness for their guests. Have you already booked your winter sports holiday in France for this season? SNOWELL has compiled a wealth of information on the new developments to make your choice easier.
Val d’Isère
Vallon de l’Iseran
New winter season means new lifts in the Tignes – Val d’Isère ski area. The Vallon de l’Iseran gondola lift transports 10 people from 2320m to 2790m in 6.5 minutes. That’s great news, because less time in the gondola means more time on the fantastic slopes of the Tignes – Val d’Isère ski area. The flow in the ski area will also be improved by the new lift. The whole project has been planned in a very climate-friendly way. In order to protect nature in the best possible way, the cable car runs in the same place as the old cable car from 1982. 32 supports were removed for this purpose and 2 ski lifts were also dismantled. Following the construction of the new gondola lift, a great deal will be invested in renaturation in order to give the high alpine flora and fauna more space again.

Tignes
Le Marais
Tignes is not idle either. The 39-year-old Le Marais chairlift, which connects Tignes le Lac with Tignes Les Boisses, has now been replaced by the new 6-seater chairlift of the same name. The route has changed slightly. The lift now departs next to the Aiguille Rouge and arrives at the old TSF Marais mountain station. As expected, the new lift is much more energy-efficient and even quieter thanks to ‘DIRECTDRIVE’ technology. The first winter sports enthusiasts will be able to use the new lift by Christmas 2024.

La Saulire
Winter sports enthusiasts in Courchevel can look forward to the new Saulire gondola lift. After the old lift was damaged, the decision was made to build a new one. Skiers and snowboarders can now enjoy the magnificent view through the panoramic windows from the comfort of their seats.
Courchevel has also thought of its younger guests. A new magic carpet has been developed especially for them, providing even more fun, safety and comfort thanks to a roof. This new facility in the ‘Golf’ district replaces 2 of the 3 magic carpets. This new carpet can now be used comfortably in all weathers.

The modern 10-seater gondola provides easy and comfortable access, especially for children. With the EasyRider concept, which is designed for beginners and those returning to skiing, every winter sports enthusiast can now enjoy the new green slope from the mountain station.

Jandri Express 1 + 2
After 40 years of operation, the Jandri Express in Les 2 Alpes has been replaced by the new 3S cable car. The new cable car is not only more comfortable with more seats and more spacious cabins, but also faster, which shortens waiting times. You will be transported up to 3200 metres in just 17 minutes. The new cable car is available all year round and can therefore also be used in summer, e.g. for mountain bikers & hikers. From December 2024, you can explore Les 2 Alpes with the new Jandri Express.

Les Arcs
Transarc
The Les Arcs 1800 ski area aimed to further improve comfort for its guests, and the new Transarc gondola lift has done just that. The new lift has spacious comfort gondolas with 10 seats. It is energy-saving and also considerably faster than the old lift. It takes just 13 minutes to reach the top station. Here you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view. A special feature is the mineral gallery with very fine exhibits.

L’Alpin und Le Valléen
The connection between Le Bettex and Saint Gervais has taken on a new dimension with the construction of the new 10-seater L’Alpin gondola lift and the 10-seater Le Valléen gondola lift. The new lifts also facilitate the connection to the Le Fayet railway station. As the journey by train only takes half as long as by car, the traffic situation has also improved enormously in one swoop.

Valloire
Sétaz
The new 10-passenger Sétaz gondola lift, which will be built in 2024 in the Valloire Galibier-Thabor ski area, will replace the old 6-passenger gondola, which dates back to 1985. The new 44 gondolas of the lift not only offer more comfort. They transport up to 2,400 people per hour at a speed of 7 metres per second to the ski area at 1930 metres above sea level in less than 5 minutes. The valley station in the centre of Valloire also houses a ski depot for guests.

La Rosière
Chardonnet
The important Chardonnet chairlift, which connects the ski resorts of La Rosière (France) and La Thuile (Italy), is being replaced by a 6-seater chairlift. The upgrade from a 3-seater to a 6-seater chairlift represents a significant improvement. From December 2024, up to 3,000 winter sports enthusiasts per hour will be able to get from A to B much faster in the Espace San Bernardo. Another advantage of the new chairlift is that even less experienced winter sports enthusiasts will be able to take the lift down the valley and avoid the red Bouquetin slope. The new lift also makes it possible to transport injured winter sports enthusiasts.

Risoul
L’Homme de Pierre
From winter 2024/2025, the new Homme de Pierre 6-seater chairlift will replace 2 old lifts, the Césier chairlift and the Homme de Pierre ski lift. The new lift in Risoul is a high-speed detachable 6-seater chairlift that can transport 1,500 people per hour. Thanks to the much shorter journey time (now 6 minutes instead of the previous 25 minutes!), you can enjoy much more of your holiday time on the slopes.
As the new lift runs through the forest and the old ski lifts and stations have been removed, more space has been given back to nature. For example, the black grouse can now find new and secluded nesting sites again. The new chairlift also provides better access to the area in summer, which brings many advantages and a wider range of activities. Mountain bikers and hikers can now also enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Serre-Ponçon in summer.

Gourette
Cotch
With the construction of the new 10-seater Cotch gondola lift, Gourette has taken another step forward in the ski resort’s investment plan. Not only skiers and snowboarders can use the new lift, but also hikers and mountain bikers in summer. The blue beginner slopes Préhistoire and Cotch will also be improved. The new lift not only creates a better flow for winter sports enthusiasts in the upper part of the ski area, but also offers the option of travelling downhill.
Sarrière
The new investments for the 2024/2025 winter season also include the new Sarrière 6-seater chairlift. This lift replaces the Sarrière 2 platter lift from 1960. With a capacity of 2,400 people per hour, this new lift can transport significantly more people than before. You can reach the top station in around 5 minutes and then ski back down the beautiful slopes of Gourette.
