The central mountain region situated in the Sauerland is located in the state North Rhine-Westphalia and partly also in the state of Hessen, depending on how you look at it. The Sauerland has blossomed in recent years to an indispensable winter sports region. The ski areas Willingen, Winterberg, Neusastenberg, Sahnehang, Züschen, Altastenberg, Bödefeld Hunau and Ruhrquelle belong to the ski association Wintersport Arena Sauerland. The eight snow-sure ski areas offer everything the heart desires. From gentle wide slopes for beginners to steep professional descents, here the right challenge is present for each snowboarder and skier. Numerous snow making systems also provide for the winter splendour, even if the winter should not be so good. For the Wintersport Arena Sauerland there are various tickets available, which are valid between 3 to 7 days. Those who only have time for half a day or a whole day, can purchase the corresponding ticket in one of the eight ski resorts. There is also a lot to do in the Wintersport Arena Sauerland for the little ones. Numerous flat practice slopes with special children’s areas, where they can practice their first turns in a playful way together with the well-trained ski instructors, are available throughout the whole area. Also plenty of floodlit slopes for night skiing and night tobogganing can be found spread over the entire ski area. Those who need a break, will find many possibilities for this along the slopes and at the respective valley or mountain stations. A wide range of rustic huts and mountain restaurants offer plenty of choice. Countless après-ski bars, discos and clubs in the region leave nothing to be desired for all party winter sports enthusiasts.
