The Aquitaine region is surrounded by a 250-km coastline and the Pyrenees as a border with Spain. The region is divided in the departments Gironde, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Dordogne, Landes and Lot-et-Garonne. In Aquitaine in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques winter sports are available. On 80 km of slopes, which you can reach via 40 modern ski lifts, you will find ideal conditions for your winter holiday. The ski areas Pierre St-Martin and Artouste Gourette reach up to an altitude of 2,400 meters. For cross-country skiers the region offers a trail network of over 100 km at an altitude between 1,200-1,700 m and are also extremely suitable to be explored by snowshoes or a leisurely winter walk. Of course, as befits France, here the culinary experience is very important. Whether boiled chicken, black truffes, prunes, foie gras (duck) or Jambon de Bayonne, here you will find only the finest of all varieties. A glass of Jurançon or Bordeaux should not be missed with this of course.
