The name Pyrénées Atlantiques describes the character of the province fairly accurate. Bordering the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Pyrenees on the other side, it creates a varied landscape. From the idyllic places Bayonne and Pau in the Basque Country and Béarn, to the Pyrenees where winter sports is most important, the province also impresses with wonderful landscapes. With the ski resorts Gourette, La Pierre Saint-Martin and Artouste, a range of 80 kilometers of slopes and 40 ski lifts are available. In the province are 3 other winter sports resorts which are specialized only in the Nordic winter sport, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. In Somport, Issarbe and Iraty, which are located at an altitude of 1,200-1,700 meters, you will find a 100 km wide network of trails on 21 different routes. The province of Pyrénées Atlantiques has a lot to see. You can explore the National Park of the Pyrenees or Bayonne, the capital of the Basque Country in France, but also the valley of Ossau or the Rhune rack railway.
