Piedmont – Piemonte is located, as the name suggests, at the foot of the highest mountains in the northwest of Italy, at the borders of Switzerland and France. In winter the region becomes a huge winter sports area for skiers, snowboarders, cross-country skiers, etc., the Via Lattea. This “Milky Way” has a dimension of in total 53 ski resorts, including for example the famous ski destinations like Artesina, Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere, Alagna Valsesia Bardonecchia, Limone Piemonte und Domobianca. In addition to the 1,000 kilometers of slopes, the region also offers numerous hot spots for ski tourers. A special highlight is the crossing of the Alps. Starting at the Maritime Alps to the peaks of the Ticino or Lepontine Alps. As an alternative for skiing and snowboarding, there is a wide range of activities off-piste in Piedmont – Piemonte. Besides a vast network of cross-country trails, there is the possibility to explore the beautiful landscape at winter hiking or snowshoeing, ice climbing or on a dogsled excursion. In addition to the countless nature parks, the region also has two national parks, the Gran Paradiso and Val Grande.
