The region Sondrio is part of the famous Lombardy. From Sondrio you can enjoy fantastic views of the Ortles Group and the glacier Forni. The four ski resorts Aprica, Valchiavenna, Valtellina and Valmalenco in the region Sondrio together form the ski arena Valtellina. The result of this merger of the ski area is a wintersports offer with 400 km of slopes and more than 200 km of groomed cross-country trails with the internationally known ski slopes of Valdidentro/Valdisotto, Santa Caterina Valfurva, Aprica, Madesimo/Campodolcino and Valgerola, the summer ski station on the Stelvio, Chiesa in Valmalenco and Caspoggio and Livigno. Last but not least Bormio should be mentioned as one of the most famous ski resorts in Italy. Bormio is located at the Stelvio, close to Switzerland. 1985 and 2005 the International Skiing Championships took place in Bormio. This resort is also famous for its thermal baths and spas. Furthermore, every year the ski World Cup is held here on the Stelvio piste. In Livigno, close to St. Moritz, the winter sports hotspot is located at an altitude of 1,916 m, making it blessed with lots of snow. Livigno also hosts numerous international competitions, which also attracts many guests next to the duty free shopping paradise. Valmalenco is considered a stronghold for ski tourers. Every spot in this region has the potential to be a superb starting point for a skiing tour with unforgettables views.
