In the heart of Germany the state of Hesse is located. Hesse is especially known for its strong economy. The internationally renowned banking center Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, which is the capital of the state of Hesse, are respected agglomerations. The landscape of the state of Hesse consists among others of numerous mountain ranges which partly reach a height of 950 m. These mountains are popular ski resorts for all snowboarders, skiers and cross-country enthusiasts in winter. The largest and most famous winter sports resort of Hesse is Willingen, which is located in the Sauerland. In total 16 km of perfectly groomed slopes, a cable car and 15 other lifts invite you to go skiing and snowboarding. Lovers of the Nordic sports will get their money’s worth, as 80 km of prepared cross-country trails in various levels of difficulty await them. In the event that Mother Hulda does not bring so much snow once, a modern snowmaking system offers the solution. Another winter sports area can be found on the Vogelsberg, which is also known as the largest no longer active volcano in Central Europe. Here you will find among others the longest ski lift in the state. The Vogelsberg is also very popular with ski newcomers and cross-country skiers, because it has several cross-country trails which have been specially prepared for skating competitions. The Odenwald is especially popular with passionate cross-country skiers. Around 30 trails in different levels of difficulty invite you to do cross-country skiing or skating. Located at an altitude of 900 m the Wasserkuppe in the Röhn region offers the highest snow guarantee of the state. The longest ski runs and more than 100 km of perfectly prepared trails can be found on the Grossen Feldberg in Taunus.
