Via Rankweil in Vorarlberg one can reach the Laternsertal which was occupied by the Walser in the Middle Ages. Through the valley the river Frutz flows. The only municipality in the Laternsertal is Laterns, which is split into the districts Thal, Bonacker and Innerlaterns. Through the Furkajoch one can reach the rear part of the Bregenzerwald in Damüls. In winter, the Laternsertal with its 27 kilometers of slopes, 4 km long natural toboggan run and 6 ski lifts is transformed into a paradise for winter sports loving families. For freeriders numerous touring runs are available. Freestylers can use the funslope. The youngest among the skiers are even taken care of for free in the Winterparadies Kinderland in the Laternsertal. The ski resort of Laterns-Gapfohl is also a member of the 3Täler ski pass, which expands the offer even more. Those, who would like to experience the landscape of the Laternsertal quietly, can do this on touring skis or snowshoes. The Hohe Freschen at an altitude of 2,400 m above sea level is a very popular destination for this.
