The holiday resort Schwendau at 620 meters above sea level is, like the neighboring Hippach, located in the rearmost part of the Zillertal. The popular holiday village has a centuries-long tradition. First mentioned already in 1200, one can admire a beautiful church from the 13th century in the neighboring village of Hippach. Until the 14th century the local castle was located on the hill of Burgstallschrofen. In winter Schwendau offers excellent access to the big ski area Mayrhofen with the Horbergbahn. Here skiers and snowboarders can look forward to 142 km of slopes and 61 lifts. The Penken, which is a true guarantee for action, offers the winter sports enthusiasts the black Harakiri run, the Penken Park for freestylers and many other attractions. Horberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm provide even more variety. Toboggan fun for all age groups is guaranteed on the toboggan runs around Schwendau. The Gerlosstein toboggan run is the longest in the Zillertal with a length of 7 km. In addition, one can find a natural toboggan run and a family toboggan run with a length of 2.5 km in Mayrhofen. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can explore the beautiful winter landscape of the Zillertal on a network of 200 km of tracks. Directly in Schwendau there is also a trail, which is 3.5 km long.
